    Antinomies of „truth and reconciliation“: Post-Yugoslav cases.Slobodan Karamanic - 2012 - Filozofija I Društvo 23 (3):3-22.

The Caravan Has Passed: The Metaphor (Majāz) of the Caravan in Turkish Ṣūfī Poetry.Gülay Karaman - 2021 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 25 (2):797-822.
Through the influence of the religious mystical thought, which interprets the human as a traveler and the world as a destination to settle in and migrate from, numerous connotations as to the road, the passenger as well as the journey have been created in Turkish Ṣūfī poetry. The caravan, which takes place in poetry as an element of simile (tashbīḥ) and generally within the framework of metaphor (majāz) is one of these associations. In Ṣūfī texts, the caravan symbolizes the spiritual (...)

Some Words Thought to be of Arabic Origin in Karaman and Konya Dialects (Adjective, Adverb and Pronouns).Yunus İnanç - 2023 - Atebe 10:39-59.
Nations are in relations with each other in cultural, economic, political and military fields. It is unthinkable for the languages of nations to be independent of this relationship and closed to influence. Interlingual interaction, exchange of words and phrases is a requirement of the natural structure of the language. Therefore, languages have exchanged words with each other. Throughout history, Turkish has borrowed words from other languages and given them words. Arabic is one of the languages with which Turkish exchanges words. (...)

Le principe de précaution est un principe récent qui irrigue de plus en plus le droit et les droits de différents champs de la vie publique. Il modifie ce qu’on attend des décideurs et responsables publics pour prendre des mesures qui évitent ou limitent le risque encouru ou une diminution des droits à la sécurité des citoyens et personnes. Un des défis auxquels les décideurs sont confrontés est de fonder leur décision sur un avis, une recommandation ou une expertise scientifique (...)

Can Infants Retain Statistically Segmented Words and Mappings Across a Delay?Ferhat Karaman, Jill Lany & Jessica F. Hay - 2024 - Cognitive Science 48 (3):e13433.
Infants are sensitive to statistics in spoken language that aid word‐form segmentation and immediate mapping to referents. However, it is not clear whether this sensitivity influences the formation and retention of word‐referent mappings across a delay, two real‐world challenges that learners must overcome. We tested how the timing of referent training, relative to familiarization with transitional probabilities (TPs) in speech, impacts English‐learning 23‐month‐olds’ ability to form and retain word‐referent mappings. In Experiment 1, we tested infants’ ability to retain TP information (...)

Therefore, the online EMDR R-TEP Protocol was applied to a total of 154 individuals working with coronavirus patients, frontline professionals, relatives of coronavirus patients, coronavirus patients, and relatives of someone who died from coronavirus and the PTSD symptom level before, after, and 1 month after therapy was (...)

Dâwûd al-Qarisî (Dâvûd al-Karsî) was a versatile and prolific 18th century Ottoman scholar who studied in İstanbul and Egypt and then taught for long years in various centers of learning like Egypt, Cyprus, Karaman, and İstanbul. He held high esteem for Mehmed Efendi of Birgi (Imâm Birgivî/Birgili, d.1573), out of respect for whom, towards the end of his life, Karsî, like Birgivî, occupied himself with teaching in the town of Birgi, where he died in 1756 and was buried next (...)

Information Sampling, Judgment, and the Environment: Application to the Effect of Popularity on Evaluations.Gaël Le Mens, Jerker Denrell, Balázs Kovács & Hülya Karaman - 2019 - Topics in Cognitive Science 11 (2):358-373.
The social environment influences what information individuals sample: people are often exposed to alternatives that are popular. This can systematically change an individual's evaluation of an alternative if she had previously been avoiding it due to a negative evaluation. The authors show that social exposure can have positive or negative effects on evaluation, depending on how popularity and prior evaluations interact. This theory was supported by a large‐scale analysis of data from a hotel chain.

In this article we consider certain elements of the normative theory of Jürgen Habermas in the light of the proposals of Bruce Ackerman, with a view to strengthening a concept of deliberative democracy applied to the legitimation of juridical rules. We do not construct a hierarchy of the two positions, but seek to bring together certain elements to achieve a common project. As the starting point for examining the work of the two authors, we take the scheme proposed by Habermas (...)

Accounting for the evolutionary origins of morphological novelty is one of the core challenges of contemporary evolutionary biology. A successful explanatory framework requires the integration of different biological disciplines, but the relationships between developmental biology and standard evolutionary biology remain contested. There is also disagreement about how to define the concept of evolutionary novelty. These issues were the subjects of a workshop held in November 2009 at the University of Alberta. We report on the discussion and results of this workshop, (...)

A categorical, higher dimensional algebra and generalized topos framework for Łukasiewicz–Moisil Algebraic–Logic models of non-linear dynamics in complex functional genomes and cell interactomes is proposed. Łukasiewicz–Moisil Algebraic–Logic models of neural, genetic and neoplastic cell networks, as well as signaling pathways in cells are formulated in terms of non-linear dynamic systems with n-state components that allow for the generalization of previous logical models of both genetic activities and neural networks. An algebraic formulation of variable ‘next-state functions’ is extended to a Łukasiewicz–Moisil (...)
